Now since the Modem keeps coughing and dying evey 2 minutes. And uploading pictures seems like it is going to be rocket since I will have to paint pictures for you. For starters, why I am here.
I am in Isiolo on the TJRC hearings trail.
Listening to testimonies of victims of violence dated back to crimes commited from independence to the day the National accord was signed in February 28th 2008. And boy! Today I cried. I just couldn't hold it in. Most of it just sounded like something out of a horror movie.
The lives that people have lived in Isiolo and other parts of North Eastern province make you feel priviledged just to have lived in Nairobi.
Imagine with me for just one moment that you are having dinner as usual with your family. The army breaks down the door and takes your father away. Now it's not one random military officer it is several, who storm in and ruin your family moment. They beat your parents up with the butt of an AK47 or M16 Machine gun. The next thing you know your mother is screaming at the top of her lungs for your dad to be left alone.
You as the kids panic and start screaming as well. Only to watch your dad being dragged and beaten some more, outside the house like he commited regicide. It doesn't stop there. You watch you dad's hand tied to the back of one landrover and his legs tied to the back of another landrover. Both landrovers drive off in opposite directions.
And at the tender age of maybe 5 years. The man you loved and adored and cared for your family is being ripped apart before your eyes. The last time I heard of an act as beastly as this was in the Jim Crow south in America. In that era they used horses to rip people apart.
The sole purpose; instill fear. How some people have lived as victims of rape for 42 years and never told a soul not even their husbands still amazes me. You should see these women, once they testify they walk out eyes bright and with a spring in their step.
I won't go on becasue some of you maybe extremely distraught. There is more where that story came from. I will be sharing more.
If you doubt that God exists and can make you whole again after the pain. You need to meet these amazing souls in Isiolo. Because the amount of pain, loss and desperation that they have faced, only God knows.
These hearings are something else for them that I cannot even fathom. They walk with a new spring in their step and they can afford a smile. You can see the joy, relief and closure in their eyes.
